Lens accessories: adapters, rings, polarizers
The small parts without which optics will not meet the camera. Adapter rings join different mounts — M42, M58, M72 to C-mount and F-mount. C-C extension rings shorten the minimum object distance when a part has to be imaged larger. Linear polarizers suppress specular glare — primarily from glass, film and plastic; on metal they only help in a cross-polarized lighting setup.

How to choose
An adapter is chosen by the pair of mounts and by thickness: it counts towards the flange distance, and an extra millimetre shifts focus. A polarizer is chosen by the lens front thread (M27, M30.5, M35.5, M37, M40.5, M43) — listed in the lens specification as filter thread.
FAQ
How is the correct mount adapter identified?
Match both interfaces, not just the lens-side thread. The range includes M42 × 1.0 to C-mount, CS-mount, or F-mount; M58 × 0.75 to C-mount or F-mount; and M72 × 0.75 to F-mount. Then include the stated adapter thickness in the flange-distance check.
What changes when a C-to-C extension ring is added?
A C-to-C extension ring shortens the minimum object distance so the part can be imaged larger. Listed ring lengths are 5, 10, and 20 mm. Because the added spacing changes the optical position, focus must be considered with the chosen ring in place.
Which lens dimension determines polarizer size?
Use the lens front filter thread. The linear-polarizer choices match M27, M30.5, M35.5, M37, M40.5, and M43 threads, all shown with a 0.5 pitch. The camera or rear lens mount does not identify the required front polarizer.
For which surfaces are the linear polarizers intended?
The stated use is suppression of specular glare, primarily from glass, film, and plastic. On metal, the polarizer helps only in a cross-polarized lighting setup, so the lighting-side polarization arrangement is part of that application.
When would a shim washer be considered instead of an extension ring?
The shim-washer group provides C-mount to C-mount spacing at 1 and 2 mm. The extension-ring group provides larger 5, 10, and 20 mm C-to-C spacing and is associated with shortening minimum object distance. Choose according to the required spacing change.
