Motion inspection with mono imaging

High-cycle mono inspection is the operating point of MV-SC5020XM. A 1/2.53-inch CMOS sensor delivers 1600 × 1216 frames through a global shutter at up to 100 fps, with 3.45 µm pixels and exposure beginning at 15 µs. Vision Master Platform includes deep-learning functions for OCR, object recognition and defect detection, so the camera can turn images into inspection results locally.

The mono output fits contour, presence and printed-mark analysis where colour separation is not an inspection variable. Global exposure and the short minimum exposure help arrest conveyor motion, while three opto-isolated inputs and three opto-isolated outputs provide trigger and decision paths. Gigabit Ethernet supports PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, TCP and UDP for passing status or results to automation equipment.

MV-SC5020XC is the direct colour counterpart, retaining 1600 × 1216 and 100 fps; use it when colour itself carries the feature. MV-SC5050XM provides 2432 × 2048 at 60 fps for a denser image with a slower maximum cycle. For still more resolution, MV-SC5120XM reaches 4096 × 2944 at 30 fps and uses a larger 1.1-inch sensor, placing MV-SC5020XM at the speed-led end of this mono group.

Selection and applications

Mono contour inspection at up to 100 fps. Embedded OCR on moving products. Triggered defect classification with discrete output.

Minimum kit: Pair MV-SC5020XM with a C-mount lens or its mechanical optical configuration, a Gigabit Ethernet cable, a 12-pin M12 power and I/O cable, and a 24 VDC source.

Nearby in the range: MV-SC5020XC — Prefer it when the 1600 × 1216 inspection must retain colour information.; MV-SC5050XM — Prefer it for 2432 × 2048 mono imaging when 60 fps is sufficient.; MV-SC5120XM — Prefer it for 4096 × 2944 mono capture when a 30 fps ceiling fits the cycle..

FAQ

Why select the mono variant for a high-speed inspection station?

MV-SC5020XM records mono frames at 1600 × 1216 and up to 100 fps. That output is aligned with inspections based on intensity, edge position, shape or printed contrast. Its paired MV-SC5020XC keeps the same resolution and rate when colour information is required instead.

What is required for power, triggering and result output?

The unit takes 24 VDC through a 12-pin M12 connection that also carries I/O. It provides three opto-isolated inputs, three opto-isolated outputs and one RS-232 channel. This permits a sensor or controller to trigger capture and receive a discrete inspection decision.

What image timing range is available for the two optical forms?

Both forms start exposure at 15 µs. The C-mount form extends to 1 sec, whereas the mechanical form is listed to 3000 µs. The CMOS sensor has a global shutter, and full-frame acquisition reaches 100 fps, so exposure can be coordinated with short machine cycles.

Can this model exchange results directly with a PLC network?

The 1000 Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet interface supports PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and Modbus alongside TCP, UDP, Fins, MC and FTP. Processing is performed through Vision Master Platform with its deep-learning module, allowing a result to be sent without treating the camera only as an image source.

How should the enclosure and ambient range be handled?

MV-SC5020XM is listed for operation from 0 °C to 50 °C and 20% RH to 95% RH without condensation. IP67 protection depends on correct installation of the waterproof lens cap, so the optical closure is part of maintaining the stated ingress rating.
