Medium-range tasks and neighbours

A 400 mm measurement range beginning at an 800 mm working distance gives MV-RS-Base-M a medium-range RGB-D geometry. It produces a 3200 × 1944 RGB frame and 1632 × 1264 depth map in 0.4 s to 0.9 s. The 450 nm Class 2 laser and Gigabit Ethernet interface combine with 0.10 mm accuracy at 1000 mm for measured capture over moderate-size work areas.

The view grows from 430 mm × 380 mm at 800 mm to 720 mm × 580 mm at 1200 mm. This progression fits container localization, robot approach planning and height inspection where the scene is broader than a close-range station but does not require a long standoff. IP65 protection and a 0 °C to 45 °C operating range support fixed installation in an industrial cell.

MV-RS-Base-M sits between the MV-RS-Base-S and MV-RS-Base-L geometries: MV-RS-Base-S begins at 400 mm and reaches 0.05 mm accuracy at 600 mm, while MV-RS-Base-L begins at 1200 mm and spans 1000 mm in depth. MV-RS-Ultra-M covers a 700 mm range and increases depth output to 2448 × 2048, making it the choice when a denser, deeper medium-range capture is needed.

Overview

A galvanometer 3D camera: a scanner sweeps the laser beam across the scene, two cameras capture the result, and the device builds a point cloud of the whole part in one shot, with no conveyor motion. Acquisition takes 0.4 to 0.9 seconds.

The main use is robot guidance: bin picking, palletising, depalletising. It works together with RobotPilot and VM3D.

Selection and applications

Medium-range RGB-D acquisition over 400 mm in depth. Robot work-area capture from an 800 mm standoff. Dimensional checks at 0.10 mm accuracy at 1000 mm.

Minimum kit: Use the MV-RS-Base-M unit with a Gigabit Ethernet cable, a 12-pin M12 power and I/O cable, and a 24 V DC source sized for typical 12 W consumption.

Nearby in the range: MV-RS-Base-S — Prefer it for a 400 mm working distance and 0.05 mm accuracy at 600 mm.; MV-RS-Ultra-M — Prefer it for 2448 × 2048 depth output and a 700 mm measurement range.; MV-RS-Base-L — Prefer it when a 1200 mm working distance and 1000 mm range are required..

FAQ

Which working volume is defined for the MV-RS-Base-M camera?

Its measurement range is 400 mm and its nominal working distance is 800 mm. The view measures 430 mm × 380 mm at 800 mm, 570 mm × 480 mm at 1000 mm, and 720 mm × 580 mm at 1200 mm.

What RGB and depth outputs are available from MV-RS-Base-M?

The RGB channel is 3200 × 1944 and the depth channel is 1632 × 1264 points. A complete acquisition takes 0.4 s to 0.9 s, with both outputs transferred over the 1000 Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet connection.

How repeatable are measurements made by MV-RS-Base-M?

At 1000 mm, the stated accuracy is 0.10 mm and repeatability is 0.08 mm. Those values are tied to that distance, so the mechanical installation should preserve the intended camera-to-scene geometry during repeated inspection or localization cycles.

How are MV-RS-Base-M power and control signals connected?

The unit takes 24 V DC and typically consumes 12 W. Its 12-pin M12 interface provides power and I/O, including three opto-isolated inputs and three opto-isolated outputs, while RGB-D data travels over Gigabit Ethernet.

Can MV-RS-Base-M operate in a dust-exposed machine cell?

The housing carries an IP65 rating and operates from 0 °C to 45 °C at 20% RH to 85% RH without condensation. It measures 236.3 mm × 79.8 mm × 98.5 mm and weighs about 1.3 kg, values that matter when sizing the support.
