Rolling-shutter detail and fit

Fine 2.4 × 2.4 µm sampling is central to MV-CT2MG0060/R. Its Sony IMX178 monochrome CMOS sensor records 3072 × 2048, giving a 6 MP frame on a 1/1.8 in format. The rolling shutter operates at up to 40.0 fps in Mono 8 with lossless compression over Gigabit Ethernet, while exposure ranges from 25 µs to 3.1 sec and gain extends from 0 dB to 24 dB.

The resolution and small pixels support inspection of fine stationary features, surface detail and step-and-capture measurements. For moving subjects, exposure and transport timing must account for the rolling shutter; Rolling and Global Reset modes are available. PoE or 9 V DC to 24 V DC powers the compact C-mount body, and IP67 protection applies with proper lens, cap and wiring installation across a –30 °C to 60 °C working range.

MV-CT2MG0050/G uses a global shutter and reaches 59.2 fps at 2448 × 2048, making it the motion-oriented alternative. MV-CT2MG0120/R shares a rolling shutter but increases sampling to 4096 × 3024 at 18.4 fps. MV-CT2MG0200/R goes to 5472 × 3648 at 22.3 fps. Choose MV-CT2MG0060/R when 3072 × 2048 detail is sufficient and a 40.0 fps rolling-shutter stream fits the process.

FAQ

Which C-mount lenses are proposed for the Sony IMX178 format?

MVL-KF1628M-12MP and MVL-KF5024M-25MP are proposed for MV-CT2MG0060/R. Both cover the 1/1.8 in sensor and use C-mount. Their 12 MP and 25 MP classes exceed the camera's 3072 × 2048 format, with focal length chosen to match field of view.

What does the rolling shutter mean for motion in this camera?

The Sony IMX178 reads with a rolling shutter, so subject or camera motion during readout can change geometry across the frame. The camera supports Rolling and Global Reset exposure modes, but the sensor remains a rolling-shutter device. Geometry-sensitive work should use a stationary target, stopped indexing or strobe-controlled exposure.

How much bandwidth and power does MV-CT2MG0060/R use?

Image data uses 1 Gbit/s Gigabit Ethernet through an 8-pin M12 X-Code connector, with Fast Ethernet compatibility. Power can come from PoE or 9 V DC to 24 V DC. Typical consumption is 1.6 W at 24 V DC under the stated operating condition.

Can binning or decimation reduce the 6 MP data stream?

Yes. Both binning and decimation support 1 × 1, 2 × 2 and 4 × 4 factors. Pixel output can be Mono 8, Mono 10, Mono 10 Packed, Mono 12 or Mono 12 Packed. The stated 40.0 fps maximum applies to 3072 × 2048 Mono 8 with lossless compression enabled.

What sealing and temperature range does the IMX178 model provide?

MV-CT2MG0060/R is rated IP67 when the lens and lens cap are installed correctly and wiring is completed properly. It operates from –30 °C to 60 °C, stores from –30 °C to 80 °C, and accepts 20% RH to 95% RH without condensation.
