Rolling-shutter colour applications

The Sony IMX178 sensor gives MV-CT2CG0060/R a 3072 × 2048 colour image from a compact 1/1.8-inch format. Its 2.4 µm pixels and rolling shutter deliver 40 fps in Bayer RG 8 with lossless compression enabled over Gigabit Ethernet. This 6 MP model emphasizes finer sampling rather than the motion behavior of the neighbouring global-shutter cameras.

It belongs in indexed inspection, colour surface analysis and stationary label or marking checks where a part can pause for acquisition. Exposure extends from 25 µs to 3.1 sec, with both Rolling and Global Reset operation. The 42 mm body provides PoE, discrete I/O and a separate M12 A-Code control port, and reaches IP67 when the lens, cap and wiring are correctly assembled.

MV-CT2CG0050/G uses global exposure and reaches 59.2 fps, but its image is 2448 × 2048. MV-CT2CG0089/G also has a global shutter and widens capture to 4096 × 2160 at 32.5 fps on a 1-inch sensor. Choose MV-CT2CG0060/R/16LC/WN for the same Sony IMX178 imaging core with an integrated 16 mm liquid lens and white light.

Selection and applications

Indexed colour surface analysis. Stationary marking inspection. Six-megapixel GigE acquisition.

Minimum kit: MV-CT2CG0060/R, a 1/1.8-inch C-mount lens, an 8-pin M12 X-Code GigE cable, and a PoE source or 9–24 V DC supply.

Nearby in the range: MV-CT2CG0050/G — Prefer it for global exposure and 59.2 fps at 2448 × 2048.; MV-CT2CG0089/G — Prefer it for global-shutter 4096 × 2160 colour at 32.5 fps.; MV-CT2CG0060/R/16LC/WN — Prefer it when a 16 mm liquid lens and white light must be integrated..

FAQ

Which C-mount lenses are suggested for the Sony IMX178 sensor?

MVL-KF1628M-12MP and MVL-KF5024M-25MP are suggested. Their image circles cover the 1/1.8-inch sensor, while their 12 MP and 25 MP classes exceed the approximately 6.3 MP created by 3072 × 2048 pixels.

How should a 40 fps rolling-shutter stream be connected and powered?

The stream uses 1000 Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet on an 8-pin M12 X-Code connector and the camera supports PoE. It can instead take 9–24 V DC on the M8 A-Code port; typical draw is 1.7 W at 24 V DC under the stated conditions.

What capture assumptions accompany the 40 fps maximum?

The 40 fps figure applies to full 3072 × 2048 output in Bayer RG 8 with lossless compression enabled. Available alternatives include Bayer RG formats through 12Packed, YUV422 variants, RGB 8, BGR 8 and Mono 8.

Which exposure modes are provided by MV-CT2CG0060/R?

The rolling-shutter sensor supports Rolling and Global Reset operation, with exposure from 25 µs to 3.1 sec. Control can run Off, Once or Continuous. MV-CT2CG0050/G is the nearby global-shutter choice and provides Trigger Width and Trigger Controlled timing.

What changes when the /16LC/WN version replaces the standard camera?

The 3072 × 2048 resolution and 40 fps rate stay unchanged. The standard 42 mm × 42 mm × 43 mm C-mount unit accepts a selected lens; /16LC/WN expands to 77 mm × 77 mm × 123.8 mm and integrates a 16 mm liquid lens with white illumination.
