USB 5 MP applications and tradeoffs
An 80 fps USB 3.0 stream at 2448 × 2048 defines MV-CT2MU0050/G. The 5 MP monochrome Stacked BSI CMOS sensor has a global shutter, 3.45 × 3.45 µm pixels and a 2/3 in format. Mono 8 provides the maximum-rate reference, while Mono 10 and Mono 12 formats are also available. High-sensitivity exposure begins at 5 µs and can extend to 10 sec.
The camera supports moving-part measurement, small-defect checks and rapid presence decisions that need more spatial sampling than 3.2 MP while retaining an 80 fps ceiling. Trigger Width and Trigger Controlled exposure place the global frame at a defined process event. USB can provide data and power through Type-C, or 9 V DC to 24 V DC can be supplied separately. Correct assembly gives the C-mount housing IP67 protection from –30 °C to 60 °C.
MV-CT2MU0032/G reaches 104.8 fps at 2048 × 1536 for faster cycles with fewer samples. MV-CT2MU0089/G offers 4096 × 2160 at 42 fps when detail takes priority. MV-CT2MG0050/G retains 2448 × 2048 but uses Gigabit Ethernet with PoE and reaches 59.2 fps. MV-CT2MU0050/G is the USB midpoint for 5 MP acquisition at a higher rate than its direct network counterpart.

FAQ
What lenses are suggested for the 2/3 in USB sensor?
MVL-KF1628M-12MP and MVL-KF5024M-25MP are the suggested C-mount lenses. Their image circles cover the 2/3 in sensor, and the 12 MP and 25 MP lens classes exceed the 2448 × 2048 camera output. Choose between their focal lengths according to field of view and working distance.
Can the Type-C connection supply both images and camera power?
Yes. MV-CT2MU0050/G supports USB power supply as well as 9 V DC to 24 V DC input. Typical consumption is 1.6 W at 5 V DC when powered from USB 3.0 under the stated condition. Discrete trigger and output lines are provided through the 8-pin M8 A-Code connection.
Which conditions define the maximum 80 fps frame rate?
The 80 fps maximum applies at the native 2448 × 2048 resolution in Mono 8 over USB 3.0. USB 2.0 compatibility is provided, but it has a lower transport rate. Mono 10, Mono 10 Packed, Mono 12 and Mono 12 Packed are supported for other output-depth requirements.
Which exposure controls are available for moving-part capture?
The global-shutter sensor supports Trigger Width and Trigger Controlled operation, together with Off, Once and Continuous exposure modes. High sensitivity permits a 5 µs minimum exposure, while high full well capacity begins at 30 µs; both ranges extend to 10 sec.
When does the GigE 5 MP version make more sense than USB?
MV-CT2MG0050/G uses Gigabit Ethernet, supports PoE and records 2448 × 2048 at 59.2 fps with lossless compression. MV-CT2MU0050/G uses USB 3.0, can receive USB power and reaches 80 fps at the same resolution. Select according to cabling topology, power method and frame-rate requirement.
